The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy is a local, non-profit land trust conserving land & water resources in western North Carolina and east Tennessee. Since 1974 we have protected 68,000+ acres across ten counties in NC and TN, including such popular destinations as the Highlands of Roan, Mt. Mitchell State Park, and the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
We protect unique forest and farm lands in the Southern Appalachians.
We organize recreational outings and volunteer opportunities to connect people with the amazing places that we have protected.
We responsibly steward and manage protected lands for posterity.
The health and happiness of future generations depends on how we act today to preserve the places that sustain us. To foster healthy communities, we work to conserve:
- Water quality in streams and rivers
- Habitat for wildlife and rare plants
- Places for people to enjoy outdoor recreation
- Farmland for local food production
- Scenic beauty of the Southern Appalachians
